What this site collects, why, and how to ask me to change or delete it.
This site (Help To Donate) is run by Hazel, based in Chingford, as a sole trader. For anything in this policy, I'm the person to contact — there's no separate company or data processor involved beyond my email provider, who stores messages sent to me in the ordinary course of email.
If you use the "Ask me a question" or enquiry form: your name, email address, postcode (optional), a description of what you'd like to donate, what kind of help you're asking for, and any message you add. This is sent directly from your device to my email address (hazel@helptodonate.co.uk) — it doesn't pass through or get stored on any other server first.
If you use "Suggest a change" on a shop listing: your name, email address, and whatever update you're reporting about that shop. Same method — sent directly to my email.
I collect this to reply to you, act on the information you've sent, and keep the shop directory accurate.
This site uses GoatCounter, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to see which pages get visited and which searches don't return results near you — so I know where to focus visiting more shops. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't collect your IP address in an identifiable form, and doesn't track you across other websites. I can't identify you personally from this data.
If you apply to be listed as a helper on this site, I'll ask for enough information to vet you properly — which may include seeing insurance documents, a DBS certificate, or references. I don't keep photocopies of certificates beyond what's needed to make a decision, and I follow the DBS Code of Practice for handling any certificate information I'm shown.
I keep enquiry and update messages for as long as needed to respond and resolve them, and I don't keep them indefinitely "just in case." As a general rule, I aim to clear out messages older than 24 months unless we have an ongoing conversation or arrangement.
Under UK GDPR, you can ask me at any time to: see what information I hold about you, correct anything inaccurate, delete it, or tell you who I've shared it with. Email hazel@helptodonate.co.uk and I'll respond within a month. If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
If how this site collects or uses data changes — for example, if a paid listings system or a different contact form is introduced — this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
